Hamiltonian engineering in banded systems
In addition to control superposition of eigenenergy states of simple quantum systems, periodic driving can be used to engineer the properties of extended quantum systems. In particular, in systems with banded energy spectrum (such as lattice models), the temporal variation of the model parameters can induce exotic phenomena some of them without analogue in equilibrium systems. This great flexibility to engineer the dynamics of a system, referred to as Floquet Engineering for periodic drivings, has motivated intense experimental and theoretical research, with particular emphasis in quantum simulations and applications in metrology.
